Choline is a constituent of phospholipids, thereby it is essential for the formation of new cells.
It ensures the normal maturation of the cartilage matrix of bones. Choline has a major role in fat metabolism in the liver. It facilitates metabolism and outward transport, thus preventing abnormal accumulation of fat within hepatocytes which may lead to “fatty liver”. In layer birds, Choline has a major role in the formation of the phospholipid lecithin, a component of egg yolk. Therefore, it is indispensable for egg formation.
